Valentine’s Day Ideas for Farmers

Sharing is caring!

February is here I thought I would share 5 easy Valentine’s day ideas for farmers. If you’re married to a farmer or rancher, then you know that busy farm schedules do not stop for holidays. I want to encourage you that you can show your love and appreciation to your farmer even if the farm has other plans.

We all know that a farmer’s job is never done and no holiday has ever stopped the cows from getting out. We also know how hard they work and how much they sacrifice to produce wholesome affordable foods and support their families. My husband is no exception and this year he has been double burdened with spearheading our home renovation.

I know this has been a huge source of stress for him for the last couple of months. But he has made it happen and managed to make some really big moves for the farm. So I plan to do something sweet for Valentine’s Day to show my appreciation. I brainstormed a couple of ideas and I’m sharing them with you! I’m sure your farmer deserves a reminder of how much you love him as well!

Just a couple of notes if you’re newly married or dating your farmer. Keep your plans simple, flexible and laid back. It’s much harder to reschedule concert tickets than a special dinner date at home. Secondly, we’re not great at gift giving and we try to live simply. We don’t want to over consume or create more clutter in our home. So these are my low clutter, budget friendly Valentine’s Day ideas for farmers!

Go to work with your farmer

I know many of you do this everyday so it may not be anything special. However if you work off of the farm or stay home with the kids, it can be a nice way to spend time together. Even if you’re not much help, your farmer will appreciate having your company for the day. You can have lunch together, chat about the farm, see first hand what your farmer’s day-to-day looks like and just generally spend some time together.

Bring him lunch

Every farm operation has their own preferences about how to feed the farmer’s both for lunch and dinners. But if you don’t regularly bring lunch out to your farmer, consider delivering a hot meal to him on Valentines Day. He might even stop long enough to enjoy it with you! Or if you work off of the farm, schedule a delivery from his favorite restaurant to surprise him!

Plan a special dinner date at home

If lunch is too difficult for your situation, try planning a nice dinner date at home. I like to make his favorite meal, pick up his favorite beverage, do a quick tidy of the house if I can, and light some candles for romantic low lighting. Pull out your fancy dishes or open a bottle of wine. Things that you both enjoy, but have time for every week. We often do a special dinner like this at home and include our kids. They love getting to eat some good food and the candles!

Buy or bake him is favorite treats

I’m sensing a theme here, are you sensing a theme? Seriously though, this doesn’t have to be complicated. People love food and there is nothing better than the smell of fresh baked brownies greeting you after a long day at work. Consider making or picking up his favorite snacks. Snuggle up on the couch and let him pick his favorite show or play a board game together while you enjoy the snacks. Make sure if you’ve got kids that you have them fed and dressed for bed so your bedtime routine doesn’t eat up your evening!

Rain Date Jar

Another simple idea is to write out any number of date ideas that you can save for rain days. You know the ones, when your husband shows up at the house on a Saturday at 10 because it suddenly started to rain or something broke down. If you’re anything like me it can be hard to decide what to do on such short notice. But if you have a rain date jar you can just pull one out and go! I’ll leave a list below of some rainy day friendly ideas!

  • Brunch or lunch at a new spot you’d like to try
  • Try a new recipe at home
  • Make an elaborate dinner together
  • Pick up ice cream and go for a drive
  • Grab your rain jacket and boots and go for a hike
  • Wander around a shop you want to visit (or drive through the local John Deere lot to look at equipment)
  • Stop by a coffee shop and people watch
  • Take your kids to an indoor gym or bounce park
  • Go visit a family member or friends you don’t get to see often

I plan to use a couple of these Valentine’s Day ideas for farmers to surprise my husband later this month. I hope this gave you some inspiration to do the same. Let me know in the comments what your plans or traditions are for Valentine’s Day?
